MY CAMINO DE SANTIAGO PACKING LIST

Here are some notes that may help you decide what to pack:

> Everyone packs differently. What is good for me may not be good for you. Go with what feels right but remember that at mile 15 you'll wish you were carring less weight not matter what you have packed. Those that go light tend to have more fun later in the day.

> Again lighter is better. You will need less than you think. Overpacking is real so fight the urge.

> Don't pack at last minute. Pack your full pack two weeks before. Even wear the pack around the house.

> Before you go, remove items from your pack don’t add items last minute.

> See our section on shoes. But here is summary.

> Blisters will ruin your trip.

> Practice footcare daily.

> Yes there are some off road parts but shoes are generally better than boots. Trail runners are better than trainers. More padding is better than less. Longer is better - go a half-size to full size longer and go a size wider than you would normally wear. My preference is for wider shoes.

> Buy three pairs of shoes that you think you will like. Wear them in rotation until you find one that is better than the rest. Make sure you do three miles up and three miles down hill at least once in the shoes. Then wear them daily for a couple of months to break them and to get a true feel. If you love them but they are worn from your trials, then buy a new pair for the trip.

> When on the walk, change your socks frequently. I change mine twice daily. Also, use antiperspirant on your feet and in between your toes. Studies have shown that that the same stuff that keeps your armpits dry, also keeps your feet dry and acts as a lube.
